Current Sermon Series – Chasing Carrots

MORE.  That's a concept that we have learned almost since we were children asking for "mo" food or "mo" milk to adults who are looking for more of everything.  Our culture lives by "the more the merrier", but it has also taught us that "mo money, mo problems"...so how is more good and a problem?  

Is it something we should chase?  In this series, we look at the concept of "more" in some specific areas  - Fame, Wealth, Perfection, Approval, and Comfort...all alone, are not wrong, even though we would look down on some, but our pursuit of them can leave us stranded and unfulfilled.  The Bible has a lot to say about these subjects...what they are, what we are really looking for, how to manage them and how to avoid the traps that we might be tempted to be caught in, almost like a hamster on a wheel, forever chasing the carrot just out of reach, and never catching it.

Week 1 - Fame - Does this help you life forever or does it actually kill you?

Week 2 - Wealth - Does the pursuit of more riches actually leave us bankrupt?

Week 3 - Perfection - We all want to be perfect, but we never seem to get there.  Can we?  Should we?  And if so, how do we do it?

Week 4 - Approval of People - It's a common thing to want people to think well of us, but it can drive us, manipulate us and what happens when God's opinions and our friends' or family's or ours collide?

Week 5 - Comfort -  So much of our society revolves around comfort and the reduction of stress and hardship, but the harder we try, the more we seem to have.  For all the comfort our advances bring, more challenges keep on coming, so what are we to do?
